Without a surprise the 2008 NHL Draft 1st pick was Canadian Steven Stamkos. Stamkos was drafted first overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning who seems adamant in making last season’s poor run a thing of the past.

The 2008 draft was particular filled of great defensemen prospects. However, I feel that the two best hockey players of this year’s draft are goal scorers. Nikita Filatov was the first European picked, 6th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets. That guy is fast and skilled and could be a revelation for Columbus.

In the coming years, expect Stamkos and Filatov to give goalkeepers nightmares.
